What does it take to qualify for a phone buyout?

What does it take to qualify for a phone buyout?

Phone buyouts offer a maximum reimbursement amount of up to $300 per phone, paid in MOBILE tokens. Actual amount capped at remaining phone balance owed and is evaluated on an individual basis. All phone buyouts approval subject to Helium Mobile's sole discretion. Please submit an application here or via one of the links above.



If approved, you must ensure your device is unlocked from your previous carrier. You will receive an email from breakup@a.hellohelium.com with instructions to submit the following:

  • A clear screenshot of your current phone's previous carrier's financing details, including - clear identification including your name and address, phone number, phone make & model, phone payment balance, phone financing start date (showing 90 days with prior carrier or number of payments made) and prior carrier’s name. 

  • Subscribe and port your phone number to Helium Mobile. You will need your previous carrier's account number and PIN number or password. View more porting instructions here or schedule a call with our support team.

These details must be submitted to the above email within 30 days of your account activation and your account must be in good standing. Please allow us up to 15 days to verify your details and deposit your first reimbursement payment into your Helium Mobile subscriber wallet.

The phone buyout is a reimbursement. You are responsible for paying your previous carrier for your final bill, including for your phone hardware. You will receive the reimbursement via MOBILE tokens at the equivalent fiat value of 1/24 of your reimbursement total, calculated on the day of deposit each month, over 24 months. Helium Mobile does not pay your previous carrier directly.



Subscription status must be active and in good standing for the entire 24 month period. A subscription status of “past due” or “unpaid” will forfeit the remaining reimbursement. Cancellation before 24 months of service will result in you forfeiting the remaining reimbursement balance.

Groups of up to 8 subscribers are also eligible to apply for this program. Please specify in the application process how many group members you are applying for. You will need to submit documents as specified above for each line. The group owner will receive the monthly deposit for all members of the group. If a group member cancels before 24 months, their reimbursement amount will be removed from the monthly deposit, but the Group Owner will continue to receive a reimbursement for all remaining group members. If the Group Owner cancels, or enters into a subscription status of “past due” or “unpaid” before the 24 month period is complete, the total of the remaining reimbursement balance will be forfeit for all members of the group.
